Contact lenses
Dailies, monthlies, lenses for astigmatism and lenses for reading, fitted by our optometrists and looked after properly. If you have been told you cannot wear lenses, ask us; that is often no longer true.
Which lens?
Most people can wear contact lenses today, including people with astigmatism and people who need reading glasses. We mainly fit Menicon lenses and choose the type around your eyes, your prescription and how you want to use them.
Daily disposables
A fresh pair every day, nothing to clean, ideal for occasional wear, sport and anyone prone to dry or allergic eyes.
Monthly and two-weekly
Reusable lenses, cleaned each night, for people who wear lenses most days and want the best value.
Toric lenses
For astigmatism. Modern torics settle quickly and give crisp, stable vision.
Multifocal lenses
Distance and reading in one lens for anyone over 45 who wants to leave the reading glasses at home.
Overnight lenses
EyeDream Ortho-K corrects your vision while you sleep, for lens-free days. More about EyeDream.
Specialist lenses
Custom lenses for keratoconus, irregular corneas and prescriptions that ordinary lenses do not reach. Our specialist lens clinic.
Your first fitting
- An up-to-date eye examination, so the prescription is right and the eyes are healthy enough for lenses.
- A fitting appointment. We measure the front of the eye, choose a lens, and let you try it. Most people are surprised how comfortable it is.
- Teaching. You practise putting lenses in and taking them out with us until you are confident, and we go through cleaning and wearing times.
- A trial period at home, then a check to confirm the lens is right for you.
- Aftercare. Regular checks keep your eyes healthy and your prescription current, and are a condition of us supplying lenses.
Contact lens fitting and aftercare fees: to be confirmed by the practice.

Golden rules
- Wash and dry your hands first, every time
- Never rinse lenses or cases in tap water
- Never sleep in lenses unless we have told you that you can
- A red, painful or blurry eye means lenses out and a call to us
Questions people ask us
Can a lens go behind my eye?
No. A thin membrane connects the back of the eyelid to the eye, so a lens cannot go anywhere it cannot be retrieved.
Can I sleep in my lenses?
Only if you have been fitted with a lens approved for overnight wear and we have told you that you can. Sleeping in ordinary lenses is the commonest cause of serious lens-related infection.
How old does my child need to be?
There is no fixed age. It depends on the child’s motivation and ability to handle lenses hygienically, with a parent’s help at first. Some children manage well at eight; others are better waiting.
Can I buy my lenses elsewhere?
You are free to, once we have fitted them and given you a specification. Buying from us includes aftercare and means we know exactly what you are wearing if there is ever a problem.
