EyeDream Ortho-K: clear vision without daytime lenses

Wear a specially designed lens while you sleep, take it out in the morning, and see clearly all day. No glasses, no daytime contact lenses, no surgery, and fully reversible.

How it works

EyeDream is a modern form of orthokeratology. The lens is rigid and gas permeable, and its inside surface is shaped to gently flatten the very front of the cornea overnight. Because the cornea does most of the eye’s focusing, that small change corrects short-sight for the whole of the next day.

The effect is temporary and builds up with nightly wear. Skip the lenses for a few nights and the cornea drifts back to its original shape, which is why we say it is reversible. Most people see a big improvement after the first night and reach full, stable correction within one to two weeks.

  • Typically suits short-sight up to about -4.50 with astigmatism up to about -2.00. Ask us if you are outside this; newer designs reach further.
  • Fitted with corneal topography before, during and after, so we can see exactly what the lens is doing
  • Highly oxygen-permeable lens material, replaced regularly
  • The same treatment we use for myopia control in children

What to expect

  1. An assessment with corneal topography to confirm you are suitable and to design the lens.
  2. Trial lenses and your first night’s wear, with a check the next morning.
  3. A follow-up over the first week or two while the correction settles.
  4. Routine reviews, usually every six months, with new lenses when they are due.

Care is simple: clean and store the lenses each morning, and never rinse them in tap water. We go through the routine with you and give it to you in writing.

The cost is spread over the year and is usually similar to wearing good-quality daily disposable lenses. Fees to be confirmed by the practice.

Bring your current glasses or lens details. Please leave soft lenses out for a day or two beforehand if you can, so the cornea is in its natural shape for mapping.

Questions people ask us

Is it safe?

Ortho-K has been used for decades and has a good safety record when lenses are fitted by a specialist and cared for properly. The main risk with any overnight lens is infection, which is rare and almost always linked to poor hygiene. We teach the routine, review regularly and are always at the end of the phone.

What if I miss a night?

Most people still see well the next day, a little less sharply. Miss several nights and the effect fades. Put the lenses back in and it returns.

Does it stop me needing glasses for good?

No. It corrects vision for as long as you keep wearing the lenses at night. Stop, and the cornea returns to its own shape within a week or two. That is also its advantage: nothing is permanent.

Can I have it if I am long-sighted or need reading glasses?

EyeDream is designed for short-sight. If you are over 45 and need help with reading, ask us; there are options, but they are more individual.

How often are the lenses replaced?

We recommend new lenses roughly every six months to keep the surface clean and the oxygen flow high. We remind you when they are due.
